Murray’s GU Patrol Build | Trig 48 Tourer & Canopy by Trig Point

Trig Point purchased the GU Patrol back in 2020 with the goal of building a custom tourer that was perfect for a couple and their dog.

We wanted a vehicle tough enough for the hardest tracks yet comfortable enough to live with every day. With a pipeline of Trig Point products in development, we needed a 4WD build that could truly put our gear to the test.

The result is Murray’s GU Patrol, a durable, high-performing Trig 48 tourer that showcases our canopy design, 12V fit-out, and premium off-road functionality.

THE CONVERSION

The first step of this build was to carefully convert the GU from a 7 seat wagon to a 2 seat extra cab ute to enable us to fit a Hilux canopy. Whilst this was a custom conversion by Tinman Fabrications, the canopy parts are a mix of off the shelf components from other models.

THE CANOPY

Trig 48’s canopy layout is one of our most popular set ups, featuring:

Trig Point’s unique kitchen
Trundle drawer
50L water tank
Rear wall fitted with spare tyre carrier and ladder
Bushman 84L upright fridge
12V set up with Invicta 200Ah battery, Redarc 50amp charger and 2000 watt inverter
ARB compressor mounted in toolbox
On the roof we have run a few different awning and roof top tent set ups

ACCESSORIES AND MODIFICATIONS

The remainder of the vehicle had to be fitted out to match the quality of the canopy:

Fit and finish – Conversion by Tinman Fabrication, Paintwork Trig Point in Mazda 3 layer Soul Red
Suspension – ARB BP51s, PSR Radius Arms, Superior Rear Control Arms, Bomb Proof Alloy tie rod and drag link
Bar work – ARB Delux bar modified to suit the Warn high mount winch, SCF Rocksliders
Diff and gears – Marks 4WD 44% reduction gears fitted to the transfer case, diffs upgraded with PSR bracing kits, 4.1 gears and airlockers

The most fun car I have ever owned! Trig 48 has never put a foot wrong. With our family growing, we needed a 4 door ute, but fortunately it has gone to a great new home with Stedi lights. You will be seeing a lot more of it on their trips in the future.
